E-mail: flausino@ufrrj.br In order to evaluate the occurrence of anti-T. gondii in pigs from Pinheiral municipality, state of Rio de Janeiro, were collected and examined blood samples from 282 animals from a commercial farm. The serum samples were tested at enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for detecting antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii and considered as positive those with reaction at dilution ≥1:16. Of the 282 swine serum samples, 35 (12.41%) were positive for anti-T. gondii. Significant differences were observed regarding age (p = 0.0000004). Thus, anti-T. gondii were found in the animals studied, and it may be a source of infection for the human population.
