E-mail: nmsf@ioc.fiocruz.br The aim of this work was to report the efect on domestic rabbits due to Leporacarus gibbus in two different zootecnical breadings in the States of Pará and São Paulo. From 250 rabbits in São Paulo, 23 had dermatites, but just 89 were infested by L. gibbus. In the State of Pará,120 rabbits examined, 82 had mites adhered to the fur, where seven of them were parasitised. Samples were collected by removing hair coat by cut off with scissors. To examined, each sample was mounted in slides which Hoyer medium. The infested rabbits were treated with single subcutaneous dose of ivermectin (300 mg/kg) with 100% efficiency. No more mites were found 30 days after the treatment.
