1):102-108, 2012. Centro Universitário UNIABEU, Rua Itaiara 301, Belford Roxo, RJ 26113-400, Brasil. E-mail: domingues.cleide@yahoo.com.br Coccidiosis is an important cause of enteritis and death in birds of all species, but the genus Isospora is considered the most relevant coccidia parasite of Passeriformes. Chose, level and frequency of drug administration are essential for the control of coccidiosis, which are specific for each species of avian hosts. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of two drugs, one composed of sulphaquinoxaline, and the other containing Diclazuril in lesser seed-finches Sporophila angolensis and great-billed seed-finches Sporophila maximiliani kept in quarantine of the Center of Wild Animals (CETAS/IBAMA) in Seropédica, RJ. The results demonstrated that treatment with Diclazuril against coccidiosis showed an efficacy of 100%, whereas sulphaquinoxaline was not effective in treated birds.
