E-mail: radiovet@ufrrj.br The retina is primarily responsible for vision. Glaucoma is considered a previous optic neuropathy, usually accompanied by elevated intraocular pressure, characterized by field defects, cavitation and atrophy of the papilla. The intraocular pressure (IOP) is still considered the main risk factor for disease. Is there a relationship between level of IOP and the level of blood pressure (BP). The eye is an ideal organ for sonographic examination because it is easily accessible and contains many reflective surfaces or interfaces (Morgan 1989). This report describes the alterations ultrasound of the eyeballs of a bitch, Border Colie 6 years of age who presented a severe increase in BP as a result of renal failure and which therefore developed glaucoma. It was observed, and increases the eye, retinal detachment, bilateral and used the Power Doppler evaluation for confirmation of detachment. Ultrasonography proved to be efficient in eye evaluation and its structures and assessment; Power Doppler should be used for determination of retinal detachment.
