E-mail: munhoz@uesc.br It is a case report that described five peccaries (Pecari tajacu) held in captivity at the Municipality of Ilheus, Bahia, which showed both alopecia and pruritus. After performed skin scrapings, young and adult forms of Sarcoptes scabiei were identified. The treatment applied on the peccaries was sprinkler baths of 10% cypermethrin weekly, for five consecutive weeks. There was complete remission and no clinical signs after the first intervention. In the subsequent 10 months, there was no relapse of mange clinical signal. The animals not developed clinical signs of pyrethroid toxicity and the treatment was considered as efficient to control sarcoptic mange in peccaries.
