E-mail: nayro@vm.uff.br Lymphoma is a lymphoid neoplasia originated in solids hematopoietic organs as lymph nodes, liver and/or spleen, also called malignant lymphoma or lymphosarcoma. Neoplasias are frequently found in hamsters, and lymphoma usually responds for 8% of these tumors. Herein, we describe two cases of lymphoma diagnosed in hamsters presented to the Wildlife Animals service of Faculdade de Veterinária, UFF, Brazil. In the first case, the animal had two subcutaneous nodules laterally on its body. This animal was limping on its left limb. After physical examination several others nodules were observed on animal’s body. In the second case an edema in the scrotum was observed. In both cases, diagnosis was reached through fine needle aspirate biopsy. In cytology examination, there was monomorphic population of large lymphocytes (lymphoblast) with moderated anisocytosis and anisokaryosis, and evident nucleoli with variable size, number and shape was noted. Because of the high incidence of tumors in hamsters, including lymphoma, it is necessary to use additional tests that in order to classify and identify them. Cytological examination is a very efficient technique for this purpose. Therefore, it is possible to guide practioneer to set the patient’s prognosis and define the best therapeutical approach.
