E-mail: scherer@ufrrj.br In order to know more about the species Sus scrofa domesticus, Linnaeus, 1758, there was morphological aspects concerning the arteries at the base of the brain in no specific breed pigs, which are responsible for the irrigation of the brain. Thus, we used 24 (twenty four) pig brains with no defined sex, different ages and mixed breed and mixed breed. The heads are coming from home slaughter in the city of Iguaba-RJ and Slaughters in the swine sector of the Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro in the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ). Through the carotid artery (right and left) the vessels were washed with saline and hydrogen peroxide to eliminate possible blood clots, then latex was injected (S-65 Petrolatex Suvinil Xadrez stained with red and blue), followed injection of acetic acid 1% vv to speed up the process of latex coagulation The heads were preserved in formaldehyde and the vessels were seen. It could be concluded that the arteries at the base of the brain are dependent on carotid and basilar systems, the internal carotid artery has a rostral and a caudal branch, the middle cerebral artery is represented by three to five vessels that are dependent on the system carotid and basilar artery sends branches to the bridge, the bulb and still emits the caudal cerebellar arteries, middle and rostral.
