The colostrum and serum total protein concentrations in Moxotó and Saanen goats showed no difference (P>0.05)(6.65 ± 3.06;6.34 ± 0.54 vs 6.23 ± 4.49; 6.61 ± 0.53) between breeds, respectively, while their offspring showed difference (P< 0.05) (6.62 ± 0.45 vs 5.15 ± 0.76) between races. The albumin levels did not differ (P>0.05) in colostrum and serum (2.52 ± 0.31; 2.87 ± 0.18 vs 2.31 ± 0.19; 3. 68 ± 0.76) between Moxotó and Saanen matrices, respectively, as well as their offspring (P> 0.05)(2.54 ± 0.18; 2.88 ± 0.99). The globulin in female Moxotó and Saanen colostrum increased in the first 24 h, and also in its kids (P<0.01) (4.08 ± 0.45 g/dL vs 2.27 ±0.89 g/dL), respectively. The gammaglobulins (absorbance) in females colostrum and serum differed (P <0.05) between Moxotó and Saanen, and also its offspring showed higher levels after colostrum ingestion in both breeds. It is concluded that Moxotó race has developed a survival mechanisms to face the dry environment over the years. Therefore, despite the increase in total protein and globulins in the first 12 hours after colostrum ingestion, albumin remained low in the matrices and offspring of two race. The Moxotó race showed to develop an efficient defense mechanism to survive in semi-arid climate of the Northeast and in both breeds the major concentration of immunoglobulins in colostrum happened until 24 h after parturition.
