E-mail: programa.paat@gmail.com The aim of this study was to determ ine the main causes of failure of bulls cutting steps provided in the Synthetic soundness examination, and demonstrate the importance of the examination behavior. We analyzed 6.827 Synthetic bulls, which belonged to the Brangus, Braford, Santa Gertrudis and Montana. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance, multivariate cluster and multiple correspondence using the SAS® statistical software. The Brangus and Braford adults were more likely to fail in a general clinical examination, whereas in young bulls, was the Santa Gertrudis. In examining behavior in both adults and the young bulls, the Santa Gertrudis had a higher chance of failure among the breeds analyzed. Neither the breed standard nor the age of the animals affected the rate of failure. The results confirm the importance of carrying out all stages of the breeding soundness examination prior to the breeding season, should be included as a routine step behavioral work, and not as an optional additional step.
