E-mail: robertaa_tc@hotmail.com Leptospirosis is caused by pathogenic bacteria of the genus Leptospira, affecting several animal species, including humans. Carrier animals are considered the main source of transmission because these bacteria are located in the renal tubules and are excreted in the urine for a variable period of time. Due to the variety of clinical signs the leptospirosis is a disease of difficult diagnosis requiring laboratory tests for confirmation. The aim of this study was to describe a dog with acute symptoms of failure kidney and high titer of antibodies against serovar Canicola. The diagnosis was confirmed by microscopic agglutination test (MAT), polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and histological kidney analysis by silver staining method (Warthin Starry) associated with the clinical pathology tests (complete blood count, urinalysis and biochemical profile).
